During the most recent Knoxville city council meeting, Cody Nichol was sworn in with the Knoxville Police Department. Nichol, a graduate of Chariton High School is currently a cadet at the Iowa Law Enforcement Training Academy in Des Moines. Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News it is definitely an asset to have someone who grew up in the area. He says Nichol still has a lot of training in front of him including 14 weeks at the academy and 12 to 14 weeks of field training before he will be able to patrol the streets of Knoxville. The addition of Nichol to the department comes following recent departures including the retirement of Officer Darrel Brown which left the department short handed. Currently one vacancy still remains and anyone interested in applying has until Wednesday, January 15th to do so. Chief Losada says interested individuals can contact the Knoxville Police Department to receive an application. He says the application can be filled out online and through email.
