More winter-like conditions return to the area Friday and Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, snow will likely begin Friday afternoon across most of south central Iowa, and roads may become slick for the late afternoon and early evening commute. Snow will taper off briefly overnight and return Saturday, with 3-5 inches of snow expected over both rounds of precipitation, and some two-day totals are higher depending on the track of the storm. Travel may be difficult across the region as cooler temperatures return as well. Area law enforcement reminds all drivers to slow down, use extra distance to stop, and pay attention to the road at all times to avoid collisions.
The snow comes after a near-recording breaking day of warmth earlier today in Marion County, as the high temperature reached 61 in both Pella and Knoxville, just one degree shy of the previous record of 62, set in 1928. Indianola tied a previous record of 58, set in 2002.
