As the Knoxville Community School District begins 2020, students continue to excel both inside the classroom and out in the community. In the classroom, the average composite ACT scores continue to rise throughout the district as a nine percent increase was seen in 2019 when the average score rose from 21.6 in 2018 to a 23.5 in 2019 with seven students scoring a 30 or higher.
Outside of the classroom Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News the district implemented the Silver Cord program which helps honor students’ commitment to serving their community. Pearson says Knoxville students served more than 1,380 volunteer hours as they try to earn their silver cord for graduation. She says district staff also donated over $10,000 to local charities throughout 2019. Knoxville High School students also donated more than 1,300 items and $200 to local food pantries in 2019 and the district’s second-grade teachers partnered with the local Rotary Club to help put free books in the hands of every second-grade student as well.
