A winter storm is about to impact the area. According to the National Weather Service, an additional 3-6 inches of snow is in the forecast today, with another 1-4 inches possible on Saturday.

According to the Marion County Road Department, trucks are headed out as freezing rain was quickly turning to ice on roadways and windshields. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian says to expect a long weekend of difficult travel with ice, snow, and blowing snow.

Area law enforcement encourages residents to avoid travel when possible, and reminds all drivers who have to be out to slow down, use extra distance to stop, and pay attention to the road at all times to avoid collisions.

Several area communities have issued snow ordinances and local events have been cancelled or postponed — find an updated list under the Cancellations and Delays on the home page and stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest winter weather information.
