The Simpson College women’s and men’s basketball teams are hosting American Rivers Conference and area rival Central today in Cowles Fieldhouse for a doubleheader. The Storm women are going for their 37th win in a row over the rival Lady Dutch, winning every contest since the 2001-2002 season, and winning by an average of 17 points in their last several contests. The Storm men are looking to recover from a 1-3 start to their conference season, and head coach Brad Bjorkgren tells KNIA Sports playing Central is always going to be tough, especially because both teams are fighting for conference position.

“It’s a good rivalry, and I know coach Douma very well and I know some of his guys very well and so, it’s a good rivalry. Both teams will compete, both are starving for a victory, not that we’ve lost 10 in a row or either of us have lost 10 in a row, it’s just a matter of Central and Simpson the players and the coaching staff having higher expectations. I think it’s going to be a battle, and it will probably come down to the last minute.”

The games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 1:45, with tip-off scheduled for 2pm.
