Freezing rain and sleet made roads hazardous Friday afternoon and evening, causing several accidents locally, but also cut down on overall snowfall totals, as the wintry mix lasted longer than predicted. Here were the reports to the National Weather Service of snowfall in the area:

Knoxville – 3″
Indianola – 3″
Pella – 1″ (also approx. .15″ of ice)

An additional 1-2″ of snow fell Sunday night. Many roads may still be slick and snow covered in the region, especially in rural areas, and area law enforcement reminds drivers to take it slower than usual and to pay extra attention. A brief warm up above the freezing mark should help melt some snow and ice today and Tuesday, with another possibly active winter weather system coming Thursday night into Friday. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest winter weather information.
