The Indianola athletic squads will all be in action tonight, with swimming, wrestling, and both girls and boys basketball all in action at their home venues. The Indianola wrestling squad is hosting Mat Tribe night with a double dual, as the Pella Little Dutch and Woodward-Granger Hawks wrestling squads invited to town. The Indianola swimming squad is hosting rival Ankeny Centennial for a meet at the Indianola YMCA, seeing action for the first time since January 7th in a meet that was originally scheduled for December 17th. Swimming and wrestling action starts tonight at 5:30pm.
Both girls and boys basketball squads will also be in action tonight, hosting Newton in a game originally scheduled to be played tomorrow, but was moved up due to weather. The Indians girls are off to a good start in conference play at 4-1, but face a much improved Newton squad. The Indians boys are currently on a seven game winning streak, and head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports this team has grown so much since the beginning of the season.
“Once we started practice I knew this year was going to be different than last year. I didn’t know what different meant, but if it means that we are tied for first in the conference then i’ll take it. But there is a lot of games left, have a big game Thursday, and in this league it doesn’t matter if you are on the road or at home, you are going to be facing a good team that is well coached so you have to be ready to go.”
The games tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off at 6:15.
