The Indianola City Council received the bids on the new wastewater treatment plant at their meeting Tuesday evening, with the bids coming back at a full project cost of $45.6 million, $7.2 million more than originally projected. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News according to the city’s engineering consultants, this was due to several factors.

“There are two main drivers. The first is there is a workforce shortage in the region, the state, and it is really affecting the country. Fortunately it is one of the effects of a healthy economy, so we do know that that was a significant driver of the costs. The other is there is a lot of international relations, news about the US and China and tariffs and things like that, so that does have an impact on our costs.”
