The Central women’s basketball team is on their first three-game conference winning streak in 18 years, and is now 3-5 in conference play. The Dutch have started to find their stride after a long losing streak to start league play.
One thing that has plagued the Dutch all season is the turnover numbers. The mark of 21.4 turnovers per game is the third most in the American Rivers Conference. In fact, the Dutch have turned it over more than 30 times in three conference games so far.
Central was able to get the job done Wednesday against Buena Vista despite committing 23 turnovers, but Head Coach Joe Steinkamp says that if they can decrease that number even a little bit more, his team has the potential to be very dangerous.
“What we really want to do better, still, is the turnovers. 23, maybe, is better than what we’ve had, but we think if we can somehow get to that 15-18 turnover range, we can really do some damage. We think we’re pretty good defensively in the half-court, and when we get shots up, we’re pretty efficient on offense. But we just have to limit those possessions where we don’t get anything.”
Central will have their first conference rematch of the season on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Rapids to take on Coe. Pregame coverage begins at 1:45 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS, with the opening tipoff scheduled for 2:00 inside Kohawk Arena on the Coe College campus.
