With several winter storms happening over the last several weeks, the Indianola Police Department wants to remind residents of why the snow ordinance exists. Captain Brian Sher tells KNIA News the ordinance is simply the most effective way to make sure our plows can work.

“The reason we have it, and I get asked that a lot, it’s not to write you a ticket, it’s not to tow your vehicle, that’s the last thing we want to do. It’s so the street crew can provide the service that everyone wants, to have safe, clear, ice-free and snow-free streets. If we have to write a ticket we will, if we have to tow we will, but it’s so there are no vehicles in the way of the street department when they are doing their job.”

The Indianola Police Department issued 56 parking tickets and towed 14 vehicles during the first major snow event several weeks ago, but issued just 19 tickets and towed 4 vehicles for the ordinance last weekend.
