Both Knoxville Basketball Squads got wins over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Tuesday night with the girls running away from the Rockets 64-30 and the boys surviving a sluggish night to win 57-47 as heard on 95.3 KNIA. The girls blew open a close game in the first quarter to lead by 20 points on the heels of Maggie Wilkins and Emma Dunkin’s 29 combined points. Katie Keitges was limited to three points in the first half and Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KRLS Sports, Dunkin’s court awareness is what is impressing him right now.
Uitermarkt:
“One of our smartest basketball players at both ends of the floor. There’s times that she’s communicated some things that everyone else has forgotten. Was really happy for her to see those shots fall down. We told the girls all year, the more scoring threat we can get our other three girls on the team that’s going to be huge for us.”
Wilkins ended up with 21 points, Keitges scored 16 of her 19 points after halftime and Dunkin ended up with a season-high 16. The boys built up a 30-17 lead midway through the second quarter only to be outscored by the Rockets 14-0 between the second and third quarters. Knoxville would right the ship and outscore EBF 17-7 in the final frame to post the ten point win. Kieren Nichols had 25 points to lead the Panthers while Spencer Hixon scored 16. The girls are 14-1 on the season and 8-0 in the South Central Conference, while the boys are now 11-3 and 8-0. Both teams will take on Albia on Thursday in a make up game with first place in the conference on the line for the boys.
