Several local high schools participated in the Iowa High School Speech Association district speech contest this past weekend. From Pella High School, 14 of their 18 events advanced to state, and from Pella Christian, all six of their acts advanced to the next round. Seven groups from PCM will be advancing to state as well, as are a pair from Pleasantville. Indianola and Knoxville had several groups participate, but none are competing at the next round. The State Speech Contest will be held at Cedar Rapids Washington High School on Saturday, February 8th. Pella High School will host the thirteenth annual All-City Speech Night this evening, Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 7:00 pm. The festival will showcase all the 2020 Large Group Speech events of both city high schools—Pella Community and Pella Christian High. A free-will donation will be taken to be divided between both schools.

*No results were made available at press time from Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars.
