For the 29th straight year, the Indianola Noon Lions Club provided Indianola third grade students at Emerson Elementary with a lesson on the history of the American Flag, as well as provided a flag to take home. Judge Kevin Parker helps to organize the program, and tells KNIA News the information they provide and the overall goal for the last 29 years has remained consistent.
“Basically we want to pass around respect and patriotism. Of course we give them a few facts they haven’t thought about or haven’t learned in school or don’t remember, but I think the big thing is patriotism and using the flags as a way to remind them of our country.”
Parker also said the questions the students ask and their enthusiasm for learning hasn’t changed in 29 years either, they are still as eager to learn as ever. Other third grade students across the district and at Victory Christian Academy will have their flag presentations in the coming weeks. For more information, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
