It’s another road trip coming up today for the Central basketball teams, as the Dutch head to Waverly to take on the Wartburg Knights. The Dutch women will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak when they take on their second consecutive ranked opponent. The 10th-ranked Knights have their sights set on yet another conference title, and have won 15 straight against Central. With a win, the Dutch will stay in the top six of the conference standings, and would avenge a 103-69 loss in early December.
The Dutch men will try to pick up their one and only sweep in conference play season, as Central defeated Wartburg 92-79 in their previous meeting. Central has now lost 11 in a row, but will try to build on their best collective performance of the year on Wednesday. Head Coach Craig Douma says that if his team can play with the same defensive effort as they did Wednesday, he’s confident they can get the job done on the road.
“I thought it was very positive in the locker room. They’re ready to go, and now we have to go get it done on the road though. We have to go beat a Wartburg team that we beat once already, but I think we have a good gameplan against them, we’ll be ready to go, we can do some things against them. The key will be, we have to have the same defensive effort for 40 minutes as well, and we can take care of business there.”
Today’s doubleheader will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS, with Jon Mohwinkle calling the action. Pregame coverage begins at 1:45, with the tipoff of the women’s game at 2:00.
