The Pleasantville Trojan girls and boys basketball teams split a pair of games with Madrid Friday night with the girls winning 48-43 and the boys falling 77-42. The girls game was a rollercoaster to say the least as Pleasantville would get out to a 17-12 lead after one lead by junior Breanne Benge’s nine first quarter points. Pleasantville would trail at the half however 24-22 as Madrid senior Hannah Mertz could not miss from deep scoring 16 of her game high 19 points in the first half. Pleasantville Head Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA/KRLS News what he was thinking when Mertz was making everything and how his girls were able to limit her to just three points in the second half. Cook says Mertz was able to hit deep three’s from the volleyball line and new his girls couldn’t guard her that far out so he moved to a man-to-man defense on her with a zone underneath that made it hard for her to get the ball let alone score in the second half. The Trojans and Tigers would go back and forth throughout the second half before Pleasantville sophomore Rachel Harvey would hit a big three late to ice the game and push the Trojans to the 48-43 win.

In the boys game Madrid would dominate the Trojans throughout the game leading by 15, 25-10 after one quarter of play, 41-21 at the half, 64-31 after three quarters before winning 77-42. Madrid senior Braden Gibbons would score at ease and lead all scorers with 32 points. Madrid moves to 13-3 on the year and Pleasantville falls to 8-8.
