Iowa House Republicans released their education funding plan this past week. State Representative Dustin Hite says the proposal provides an additional $107.75 million in new funding for the 2020-2021 school year. For supplemental state aid (SSA), the House plan provides a 2.5 percent increase for the next fiscal year.

Hite says on top of that increase, the House intends to continue to help rural schools with additional funding for transportation needs and funding equity for public school students. The plan closely aligns with the proposal Governor Kim Reynolds announced in her Condition of the State Address. Senate Republicans have proposed a 2.1 percent SSA increase, and similar proposals for transportation and property tax inequities.
