South Central Conference title implications rest on tonight’s Knoxville and Albia games. The girls with a win can clinch their third straight outright championship, and with momentum from a 44 point blowout over the Lady Dees last week, Coach Jim Uitermarkt is confident his defense will show up and make it tough for Albia to score.

Uitermarkt:
“It’s going to be tough for those two teams if we play defense like that, to put a ton of points on the board. If we don’t come out and do that, then it’s a whole different story. But I’m confident we will, because we have done it every single night this year.”

The boys need to beat Albia tonight and Davis County on Thursday night to force a tie for the conference title. The Panthers lost to Albia on Thursday and then fell to Centerville on Friday in a sluggish game. With two losses in the conference, the Panthers cannot afford to lose again. It could also be a historic night for Knoxville as Kieren Nichols is just six points from becoming the fourth boys basketball player in school history to score 1,000 for his career. Nichols would join Brad Davis, John Carle, and Mark Godfrey as the only Panther boys basketball players in the 1,000 Point Club. Listen live on 95.3 KNIA at 6:15 with the girls tip off at 6:30.
