Hundreds of voters in Marion County participated in Iowa’s First in the Nation Presidential Caucus Monday evening.

Democratic voters and national political leaders and media played the waiting game, as according to the Iowa Democratic Party, results have been delayed due to issues with an app and a new reporting system for precincts.

Locally, Central College was the host to Pella-area Democrats, with all four Pella wards and Lake Prairie township participating at the five sites on campus. During the event, 92.1 KRLS News witnessed the caucus site for Pella’s 4th ward, which includes Central College, and provided reports from the site as voters decided who they would like to see on the November 3rd ballot as the Democratic nominee. While no results were made official overnight, among Pella area voters, with five of six precincts reporting, including Otley, here were delegates were assigned:

Pete Buttigieg 11
Bernie Sanders 7
Amy Klobochar 5
Elizabeth Warren 4
Joe Biden 3
Andrew Yang 1

Republicans in the Pella area gathered at Madison Elementary for their caucus, which largely went for the incumbent Donald Trump, who garnered 97 percent of the 451 votes in Marion County, closely aligning with Trump receiving the same percentage of the more than 30,000 Republicans caucusing statewide.
