The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Tuesday. The council held a public hearing regarding maximum property tax dollars for fiscal year 2020/2021, and approved the resolution. They set a public hearing date of Monday, February 17th to consider approval of the fiscal year 2020/2021 City Budget.
They held a discussion regarding street services after a citizen complaint that snow removal began after people were leaving for work after a recent snow storm. Council and staff shared that each snow is different, and they do the best they can at snow removal given current staffing levels.
The council awarded a contract and approved the certificate of insurance for the Competine Creek Trail Phase Two for Competine Creek Trail from Absolute Concrete Construction, Inc. for approximately $970,000.
Hannah Vander Veer presented the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Year in Review, highlighting website progress, social media efforts, and additional marketing. Lunch and learn sessions were deemed successful, as was the idea exchange. Financials ended the year in a positive position, and paid membership increased 118 last year to 150 this year. They have also hired a marketing and communications coordinator.
They approved the 2019 school resource officer report, and approved a request for Marion County to use East Elementary during renovations of part of the Courthouse, subject to a hold harmless agreement and a lease.
