The Pleasantville Trojan girls and boys basketball split a pair of games with the Interstate 35 Roadrunners Tuesday with the girls falling 42-37 and the boys winning 66-44. The girls game was a slow affair with both teams struggling offensively to get in a rhythm with the Roadrunners taking the 16-8 lead after one quarter of play and a 23-20 lead at the half. Pleasantville Head Basketball Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the difference in the game was clearly I35’s ability to get offensive rebounds and second chance opportunities. Pleasantville would rally in the fourth quarter to take their first lead, but the lead was short lived as the Roadrunners would answer and never look back on their way to the 42-37 win.
In the boys contest I35 would get out to a quick start and lead 13-12 after the first quarter. Pleasantville would outscore the Roadrunners 15-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-23 lead at the break. Pleasantville would continue their offensive surge in the second half as they would go on a 14-2 run to start the third quarter on their way to scoring 23 points in the quarter to lead 51-29 at the end of three quarters. Pleasantville would be led by sophomore Mason Scheve who finished with a game high 19 points. Pleasantville was also without senior Tagen Douma who was out ill with influenza-B. Following the third quarter surge, Pleasantville would cruise to a 66-44 win with four Trojans scoring in double figures. Pleasantville moves to 9-8 on the year and will next play Ogden on Friday.
