Today is National Wear Red Day. National Wear Red Day is a day set aside each year to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease which is the leading cause of death in women, killing more women than all forms of cancer combined. The Knoxville Hospital and Clinics is encouraging residents to Go Red today and help support heart health by wearing red. Julie Waltenberger with the Cardio/Pulmonary Rehab department at the hospital tells KNIA/KRLS News when it comes to fighting heart disease, it all starts with exercising. She says the American Heart Association is proactively asking Americans to exercise for 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week which equates to just 30 minutes of exercise per day. Waltenberger says if people live a busy lifestyle, it is just 10 minutes of exercise three times per day. National Wear Red Day was first observed by the American Heart Association in 2002.
