Pella’s basketball teams completed the regular season sweep over their Highway 163 rivals, with the Lady Dutch defeating Oskaloosa on the road 62-51 and the boys pulling away late in a 79-68 victory, both heard live on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.

In the nightcap, Pella’s boys found themselves locked in a back-and-forth battle with an Oskaloosa team that’s found more of its stride in the homestretch of the season. After both teams kept it close after one, Pella opened the 2nd quarter with a 9-0 run, only for the Indians to surge into halftime and leave it at a 36-36 tie.

The Little Dutch were slow out of the gates after the break, as the Indians raced ahead with an 8-0 run in the first two minutes in the 3rd. But after a timeout, Pella had its own flurry to close the 3rd with a 53-52 lead, and outscored the Indians 43-24 over the last 14 minutes of the contest.

Head Coach Derek Schulte says it was a playoff atmosphere in Oskaloosa’s gym, and his team responded well against a much-improved Indians team.

Logan Shetterly scored 21 points, hitting 10-of-13 from the foul line, John Oltman scored 20 with four threes, and Josh Warner, Treyton Sturgeon, and Karl Miller combined for 13 offensive rebounds, 11 assists, and 6 steals.

The Lady Dutch kept a hot-shooting Oskaloosa team at arms length in their opening victory, leading for the majority of the game. However, Pella was unable to pull away as they had hoped in the 2nd half, with the Indians hitting seven second-half threes on a night where the Lady Dutch only shot 10-of-21 from the foul line.

Madison Naig had 21 points and Reagan Van Wyk finished with 13. The boys are 14-4 overall, the girls are 11-8 overall, and each will take their 8-4 conference record back to Pella High School Tuesday, when they host Dallas Center-Grimes.
