The Knoxville Community School District is reminding residents that the last day to request an absentee ballot ahead of the upcoming school bond election is Friday, February 21st. Registered voters may cast their ballots before the March 3rd election date by submitting an absentee ballot to the Marion County Auditor’s Office. All ballots postmarked March 2nd or earlier will be counted. KCSD recently mailed out absentee ballot request cards. For those who did not receive or unintentionally discarded one of these cards, forms are still available at the main office of each school in the district. The typical turnaround for voters to receive their ballot from the date of mailing an application is 3-5 business days. The County Auditor will not mail out absentee ballots after February 21st, even if the request is postmarked before that date.

On the ballot in the special election is a proposed bond issue. If approved, it would allow the district to build a new middle school, upgrade the air conditioning system at Northstar Elementary and replace Knoxville High School’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The bond issue would have an estimated tax impact of $8.79 per month on a home with an assessed value of $100,000.
