The PCM Mustangs dropped a pair of games Tuesday night to the Gilbert Tigers 63-30 in the girls game and 62-52 in the boys contest. In the girls game Gilbert, the 10th ranked team in class 4A would lead from start to finish 16-8 after one, 30-17 at the half, 44-24 after three on their way to the 33 point win. PCM would have no scorer reach double figures and Gilbert would hold PCM senior Regan Freland to just 4 points, with all four coming in the first half. Head PCM Girls Basketball Coach, Jeff Lindsey tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the last part of the season has been a tough one for his star player. Lindsey says the Mustangs try to do things to get Freland open and get her the ball but it takes a toll on her and she has been physically beat up these past few weeks. Lindsey says Freland is fighting through it and he believes all his Mustangs will be ready to go on Saturday. PCM drops to 9-12 overall and will take on Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Saturday in a class 3A region 6 first round game.
In the boys game, the Mustangs tried to avenge a 25 point loss at the hands of the Tigers in December and would have the lead through the first three quarters before Gilbert would outscore PCM 27-9 in the fourth quarter to escape with the 10 point win and the Heart of Iowa Conference crown. PCM was led by seniors Derek Brown and Jason Stafford who 14 points and 13 points respectfully. It’s the second straight game the Mustangs have lost after entering the fourth quarter with the lead. PCM drops to 11-9 overall and will next face South Hardin on Thursday.
