The Pella Hy-Vee made a donation to a program aiming to make the holidays happier for local children and for support of post-secondary education. Store Director Derek Sparks says they presented the Pella Police Department with $500 to support the Pella Police Department Officers Association, a non-profit supporting charitable initiatives done by officers, including Holiday Heroes and a scholarship given in the spring. Holiday Heroes is held every December in conjunction with the Pella Fire Department, Schuring and Uitermarkt, and the Pella Walmart and partners local first responders with area children to buy Christmas gifts for their families. The Pella Hy-Vee raised the funds by selling containers of cookies and donated $1 from each to support the effort.
