Travel could remain hazardous throughout much of the region after a strong cold front swept across central Iowa Wednesday evening. After light blowing snow and melted snow froze quickly, roads became slick as well, and many will remain that way through this evening. Wind chill values will dip to as low as 20 below zero today, and bitter cold will stay through Friday morning, when a fairly rapid warm up is expected by the weekend. Today’s cold air will likely break a record, as the previous low mark was 10 degrees set in 1900 for Marion County and 10 degrees in Indianola, set in 1923.
