The Central basketball teams will cross the Missouri River today, with a road doubleheader against Nebraska Wesleyan. The Dutch women can clinch a spot in the conference tournament if the following two things happen: Central wins, and Dubuque loses to Luther. It would be the first conference tournament appearance since the 2004-2005 season, and would be a preseason goal accomplished for the rebuilding program. They’ll be facing a team they defeated at home 81-71 in January, but again will have to contend with the league’s top scorer in Caitlin Navratil.
The Central men will be looking to put together some better performances in the final two regular season games, but will be facing their toughest test of the season. The Prairie Wolves are ranked #6 in the latest D3Hoops.com poll. Nebraska Wesleyan is undefeated in conference play at 13-0, and has clinched the regular season conference title for the fourth straight year. It will also provide an entertaining matchup with the league’s top two scorers in Nate Schimonitz of Nebraska Wesleyan and Adam Flinn of Central.
Due to conflicts with high school postseason basketball, today’s doubleheader will be broadcast on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com. Pregame coverage begins at 1:45, with the opening tipoff from Snyder Arena at 2:00.
