The National Weather Service has issued the first flood outlook for Spring 2020. The information released includes details about an increased risk of river flooding in the next few months. A combination of near to above normal snowpack, extremely high soil moisture, and above normal stream flows are all indicating the increased potential for flooding in the Missouri and Mississippi River basins across the entire state of Iowa. Additionally, those factors also exist upstream, and any heavy rainfall or rapid melting in the Dakotas and Minnesota could also be problematic for river flooding. Over the next two weeks, according to National Climate Center data, there is an increased possibility for above average temperatures and below normal precipitation.
