The Indianola School District will have a vote in March regarding the Public Education and Recreation Levy (PERL). Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News PERL is often known as the playground levy, and would allow the district to accumulate different funds over the next several years.
“What it is is a maximum of 13.5 cents per $1000, and it goes towards playgrounds and community education. We are in a good situation in that we could pass that and start banking some money for the next time we need new playgrounds or do some community education, and we could do that without raising our overall tax levy. We have room to decrease other levy’s by that much, and put the PERL levy in.”
Sathoff also said a Revenue Purpose Statement will also be on the ballot. The statement is a directive on what the district can use its funds for and needs to be updated, and will be at no cost to residents. The election is scheduled for March 3rd, and needs a simple majority to pass.
