The Pella City Council continues part two of their annual budget workshops this evening. On Monday, the council received an overview of the city’s finances and presentations from each of the leaders from the Pella Fire, Police, Electric, Library, and Community Services departments. Overall, the city is proposing maintaining the current tax rate of $10.20 per $1,000 for the 19th consecutive year. The city anticipates receiving $47 million and running at a surplus, but anticipates spending much of the surplus on upcoming major initiatives, including the Pella Telecommunications Utility, Pella Community Center, and downtown infrastructure upgrades. Pella’s Public Works, City Hall, and Planning and Zoning departments all present at tonight’s budget workshop, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
