The Pella City Council approved an amendment to the official timeline of a development agreement for the South Main housing complex south of downtown Pella and a bid for new wildlife fencing at the Pella Municipal Airport at their regular meeting Tuesday. The contract for the fence was awarded to Midwest Fence & Gate Company, and will cost $378,000, well below the engineer’s estimate of $421,000. An eight-foot tall fence will be installed by July to help prevent deer from accessing the runway at the Pella Municipal Airport. Resolutions were also approved for an engineering services agreement for the Pella Municipal Airport transition plan, which is with HDR Engineering, Inc. for $120,000, and a public hearing date on March 16th for an urban renewal plan as it relates to the Prairie Ridge housing development. An ordinance was adopted changing the zoning at 405 Truman Road to community commercial, which will allow Bruxvoort’s Decorating Center to move to that location. The regular meeting followed a special session with Missouri River Energy Services, which included details about the history of the company providing the power supply to the city, and a brief mention of progress as the Hydroelectric Power Project at the Red Rock Dam, which is expected to be online and generating power late this summer.
