At the end of the Knoxville City Council meeting on Monday, Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada announced the date of his upcoming retirement from the department. The announcement comes just after a year from when he originally announced his plans to retire after 38 years of service as a police officer. Chief Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News he is most proud of the people he works with and he says the Knoxville Police Department has an excellent team that wants to work together for the good of the community. As far as retirement goes, Chief Losada says he has two grandsons that live on the east coast as well as a third grandchild on the way. He says he wants to spend some time with them but plans to stay in the Knoxville community for quite a while. Chief Losada says he has lived and worked in many states and many communities but he enjoys Knoxville by far the most. Chief Losada chose May 15th as his retirement date to coincide with National Law Enforcement Memorial Day, a day set aside each year to pay tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.
