The Simpson men’s track and field squad is ranked eighth in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Central Region standings. The Storm finished tied for second at the Darren Young Indoor Classic on Saturday, and Athletic Communications Director Zach Newcomer tells KNIA Sports the Storm can be proud of where they sit, but they are just one of the area schools listed.
“Five teams are ranked in the region right now from the American Rivers Conference, but it’s nice to have Simpson up there at eighth. That’s their highest ranking over the last 30 years, and it just goes to show how tough this conference is at any sports. Right now basketball teams are ranked on both the men’s and women’s side, softball and baseball are tough, and everything in the fall was tough as well. It’s a nice showing, although Simpson may be eighth but competing at the conference championship is going to be tough.”
Competition resumes this Friday for Simpson at the Dubuque Invitational.
