The season came to a close Friday evening for the Pella Christian girls basketball team in the regional semifinals, as they fell to 3rd-ranked North Linn on a neutral floor in Le Grand 85-42, as aired live on 92.1 KRLS.

After the teams traded three’s in the first few minutes, the Lynx began to take control, and held a 25-14 lead after one. Pella Christian went on an 8-0 run midway through the second, but it was to no avail as North Linn increased their lead to 42-26 at the half.

Pella Christian was unable to sustain any sort of momentum in the second half, and the 35-point rule went into effect for the final five minutes of the game. Head Coach Brad Engers says that North Linn shot the ball just as well or better than any team they faced in conference play this season, and they just couldn’t keep up.

“We thought we could play with them, we thought these guys weren’t better than a lot of the teams we’ve been facing in the Little Hawkeye Conference. But we didn’t run into a team that shot the ball that well on a particular night. Credit to them, those kids can really light it up. We were playing man-to-man, then zone, then we thought we better switch to man-to-man, and I thought for a few minutes we were doing a good job of that. But wow, in the second half they just kept it rolling, and we didn’t have an answer for it.”

Allison Van Gorp paced the Eagles with 12 points. Pella Christian’s season concludes with a record of 5-19.
