Now that the regular season is over for American Rivers Conference basketball, the Central women’s team has learned their opponent for the first round of the conference tournament.
The Dutch will make their first Iowa/American Rivers Conference Tournament appearance since the 2004-2005 season at Luther College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Dutch and Norse split the regular season series, with each team winning on their home court. When Central traveled to Luther in January, the Norse held the Dutch to 41 points, their lowest scoring output of the season. When Central hosted Luther, it was a momentous upset as the Dutch stayed alive for the conference tournament.
Tipoff between the Dutch and Norse is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday inside the Regents Center on the Luther College campus in Decorah.
The Dutch men’s tennis team was in action Saturday, going 0-4 in split-squad style. In the home matches, Central dropped a close 5-4 decision to Northwestern College, then fell to Monmouth 6-3. The rest of the team was in Plainfield, Illinois, and dropped an 8-1 decision at North Central. That was followed by an 8-1 loss to Concordia of Wisconsin in neutral site action. The Dutch now have two weeks off before hosting Luther on Saturday, March 7th.
The men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action Saturday at the Liz Wuertz Invitational at Wartburg, where several of the top athletes did not compete in order to prepare for the indoor conference championships.
The Central women scored 60 team points to finish third. Wartburg was the champion with 289 points. The Dutch men finished second with 95 team points, while Wartburg was again the champion with 237 points.
Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Indoor Conference Championships, hosted by Luther College.
