Pella Christian and Des Moines Christian will clash Tuesday with a substate appearance on the line, in a rematch of long-time rivals. The two programs with rich tradition in Class 2A basketball have met 13 times since 2009, with the Eagles winning 8 of those games. However, it was the Lions who claimed victory in their regular season matchup this winter, in an 84-71 win on Saturday, January 18th. Without post Josh Van Gorp, Pella Christian still came up with a solid offensive showing, shooting 39 percent from three, the Eagles could not find points inside the perimeter with much efficiency, going 12-of-30 from two point range. Des Moines Christian racked up the points and pulled away in the second half, behind a 29 point performance from Grant Veenstra and the Lions taking full advantage of the absence of Van Gorp, hitting 24 of their 39 shots for two points, many of which were layups. The Eagles and Lions rematch begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Newton High School in the Class 2A District 13 boys final, with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 on 92.1 KRLS.
