A Knoxville man was arrested Saturday for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident earlier this month. According to court records on February 10th law enforcement responded to the 800 block of west Rock Island Street for the report of a two vehicle accident. Before officers arrived one of the drivers of a vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene before exchanging information with the other driver. Officers made contact with the owner of the abandoned crashed vehicle who told officers the vehicle had been stolen. Video evidence and a witness identified the driver of the vehicle as 44-year-old Daren Crider. The owner of the vehicle told officers that Crider had been in her home around the time the vehicle was stolen. On Wednesday, February 19th officers followed up with the owner of the vehicle who told officers Crider had not contacted her about the vehicle, and officers determined it had been stolen. Crider was arrested and charged with theft 2nd degree, a Class D Felony as well as leaving the scene of an accident, multiple possession of controlled substance violations and possession of drug paraphernalia.
