The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday. The board held a discussion regarding financial scenarios for the Veterans Administration Campus and Prairie Ridge Urban Renewal Project to inform the public on the financial impact of both projects to the county. Supervisor Mark Raymie breaks down the impact for residents with the potential impact expected to take effect in 2021. According to Raymie if the combined impact of both projects is as estimated at $20 million dollars, the residents will see a tax impact of $46.38 annually on a home of an assessed value of $100,000 or $3.87 monthly. For farmers, on a $1,000 assessed value of land the impact is estimated at $.75 annually. Raymie stressed that the projects are all contingent on how much it will actually cost to demolish portions of the VA District which the board estimates a cost of between $8-$15 million dollars.
They approved a public hearing and consultation date of March 5th, 2020 on a proposed Prairie Ridge Urban Renewal Plan for a proposed Urban Renewal Area in Marion County as well as approved a resolution regarding Premium Structures for all Marion County, employees to take effect July 1st.
The board approved the Veteran Affairs Income Guidelines for Determination of Eligibility Assistance in Marion County effective January 18th, 2020 and approved appointments to the Marion County Development Commission as well as approved the assignment of a tax sale certificate for five acres of property that had not had taxes paid on the property for almost 30 years.
The board approved the 2020 Marion County General Assistance Policy as well as discussed Marion County Courthouse operations relocation to East Elementary because of planned elevator renovations. The move to East Elementary is expected to begin Friday, March 13th and run through mid April with scheduled moves taking place over a four weekend timeframe. The move is contingent on a lease agreement with the city of Knoxville.
