The 14th annual Warren County Polar Plunge takes place today, with participants jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Ahquabi south of Indianola to raise money for Special Olympics Iowa. Warren County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Spurr is an organizer of the event, and he tells KNIA News Special Olympics Iowa provides a valuable service, and participating in the Polar Plunge provides a good opportunity to help them out.
“There are a lot of individuals with intellectual disabilities and we want to raise money for awareness and so they can participate in more activities and be included. They participate with us in this right alongside us, and it’s fun to see the courage they have and it gives us courage and strength to keep doing what we are doing.”
On-site registration takes place from 10:45 to 11:45am, and the plunge starts at noon. Immediately following the plunge, a meal will be provided at the Warren County Administration Building.
