indianola-3

Not many people knew what to expect for the Indianola boys basketball squad a year after the Indianola boys basketball squad graduated a Division I and Division II player, as well as a pair of senior forwards. The Indians only brought back two players with significant varsity experience in AJ Toigo and Tyce Johnson, and would be relying on JV players to fill the void of the rotation. The Indians delivered on their season however, getting contributions from many other players en route to a 19-4 overall record and a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference championship, seeing contributions from many different players along the way. Head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports like many others he didn’t know how well the team would do coming into the season, just that it wouldn’t be the same as last year.

“I’ll go back to what I said at the beginning of the year, we were going to be different and we were, and I love this different and it was fun to coach. It was fun for people to watch, and I can’t tell you how many people around the community and school just said how fun we were to watch. The best part about all of it was how close we got, how tight knit we got to be. I told them I’m just looking forward to the future not just for our basketball program but our seniors because I know they are going to be successful in life.”

The Indians ended the season as the second highest scoring team in class 4A, the 4th best shooting team in class 4A, ranked third in assists, 1st in steals, and turned the ball over the 8th least amount of times.
