The Knoxville Bowling Program has a difficult time when it comes to recruiting kids to come out. Coach Shaun Renard tells KRLS Sports when Knoxville lost its bowling center a few years ago…it became more difficult to get kids to come out knowing they would have to travel to Monroe to practice and play. Renard adds however…the kids bowling program that used to be in Knoxville was transferred to the Monroe center and it is doing well with nearly 30 kids…
Renard:
“With Knoxville losing the bowling alley, it’s hard to get kids started at a younger age, but we still have the junior program that got moved to Monroe and it’s still thriving up there. It’s kids getting to bring their friends along and that’s what gets kids interested in it.”
Renard says many of the kids will bring their friends and several of them become interested. Knoxville bowling has been a recent fixture at state meets both individually and team. This season boys bowler Keegan McCarty made the state meet…ultimately finishing in 34th place.
