The Pella City Council will discuss hard surfacing of 218th Avenue during policy and planning following their regular meeting Tuesday. Currently, the city plans to resurface 218th Avenue from just south of Shady Brook Lane to the end of the pavement on Neil Drive. Current budget numbers include a 24’ wide 6” asphalt roadway with 2’ gravel shoulders in a rural cross section, ditches on both sides, and culvert improvements. The budgeted amount for the project is $463,000, but council could also proceed with an urban cross section including sidewalks which could cost $1.1 million. Garden and Associates, the project engineer, has reviewed and considered several options, including a “T” intersection to help with grading of the land. The engineer will be present during this Policy and Planning session to discuss the options following the regular meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
