One of the biggest adjustments for a freshman when they get to athletics is the adjustment of the speed of the game and what their roles are between junior varsity and varsity. The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad had five freshmen on the roster with most playing split JV/varsity. Coach Jim Uitermarkt tells KRLS Sports on many occasions, their roles on JV were the exact opposite of what they were for varsity.
Uitermarkt:
“Their role in JV was entirely different from what it was in varsity, that took just as much time to adjust. For instance Norah in JV we wanted her to handle the ball and score and get shots just to get that experience.”
The Panthers freshmen all contributed to varsity from a starting role for Emma Dunkin to coming off the bench for the other four. Knoxville finished the season at 20-3.
