The boys basketball state tournament gets underway this week, and another class will be inducted into the IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame. PCM alumnus Brandon Myers is one of eight players to earn the honor this year, after leading the Mustangs to a state championship in 2004. While he is best known for his time as an Iowa Hawkeye and NFL player, Head Coach Fred Lorensen would argue he was better at basketball than football.
“We all know about the Iowa, NFL stuff with football, but I think I can honestly say he was a far better high school basketball player than he was a football player. He was really good, he was probably the best player in the state as a senior. We were in the state tournament all four years he was here, undefeated state champions his senior year. He could play inside, outside, whatever you needed done he would do. Just a great athlete, really skilled player, and certainly well-deserving of the honor he’s getting this year.”
Myers and the rest of this year’s honorees will be inducted into the IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame at halftime of the Class 3A Championship game on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena.
