The Simpson Storm baseball squad lost three of four games against Westminster over the weekend, dropping their record to 2-4 on the young season. Highlights for the Storm included an eight-strikeout performance by sophomore hurler and Indianola alum Brady Held as he picked up his first win of the season, as well as home runs from Truman Schmitt and Brandon Urias. Head coach Nathan Roling tells KNIA Sports the Storm have struggled for awhile, but he believes his young squad will turn some heads and surprise some American Rivers Conference teams.
“This is a much different group. Last year we were incredibly young, and I think we showed that we can compete in the conference with our early season success. And our talent level we never felt when we left the field that we were any different talent-wise, it was just the maturity and growth. The teams that did well last year were the oldest teams and the teams that struggled were the youngest teams, and age wins in our conference. We fell that the maturity and growth we made from last year to this year has been a world of difference.”
The Storm will next travel to Florida for a run of six games in the sunshine state starting on Thursday.
