The tournament trail came to an end sooner than the boys from Eagle Lane had hoped, as No. 7 Pella Christian fell to No. 2 Treynor in a 69-53 state quarterfinals loss heard live on 92.1 KRLS Monday evening.
While the Eagles and Cardinals traded blows and leads several times in the first 12 minutes, a key run by Treynor including a pair of threes sandwiching a transition dunk put the Cardinals ahead by multiple possessions, and a lead they wouldn’t lose for the rest of the contest.
Despite a handful of runs to try and close the gap for P.C., the Cardinals would answer each time, and the Eagles’ inability to generate post offense further frustrated the No. 7 seed.
Jack Vermeer finished with 14 points, Dan Jungling added 12 points with three steals, and Keean Cadwell scored 11 points. Pella Christian finished the 2020 season with their 15th state tournament appearance since 1990 and with an 13-11 record, and say farewell to 11 seniors on varsity.
