Just before 11:30 p.m. Monday, a law enforcement officer with the Melcher-Dallas Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on Highway G76 south of Melcher-Dallas. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Jacob Yoder of Blakesburg, refused to stop and a short pursuit followed. Yoder eventually stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended after a short pursuit. Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Melcher-Dallas officer and secured a female passenger who, according to Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, was an unwilling participant in the chase. Sheriff Sandholdt says no one was hurt in the incident, and that’s a testament to the professionalism shown by the Melcher-Dallas Officer and everyone involved. Yoder was arrested and charged with eluding speed over 25 mph, an aggravated misdemeanor, interference with official acts, a serious misdemeanor and providing false identification, a serious misdemeanor.
