Carousel Theatre in Indianola continues showing Eurydice tomorrow for the second straight week. Joel Hade with Carousel Theater tells KNIA News this is a re-imagining of the greek myth of Orpheus, which is originally a story about a husband trying to bring his wife back from the underworld, but is retold from a different perspective.
“This is a really fascinating interpretation. The author Sarah Ruhl lost her father to cancer at a relatively young age, and she ended up writing this modern interpretation almost as a conversation with him, her last conversation. So this spins more around Eurydice going to the Underworld and being reunited with her father who is already there, and the difficulty she has in trying to decide to go back to Orpheus or stay with her father. It’s a fascinating telling, very deep and very moving, a beautiful story.”
The production will take place at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Innovations at 117 E Salem Ave tomorrow and Saturday at 7pm, and Sunday at 2pm. Tickets for adults cost $10, and students cost $5.
