The PCM boys basketball team finished fifth in the Heart of Iowa Conference this season. The Mustangs didn’t quite finish as high as they thought they might, but they picked up some big wins and upsets along the way. Head Coach Fred Lorensen says his team’s opponents tended to shoot the 3 well, and the Mustangs need to be able to better keep up with those teams in the future.

“The most obvious thing, if you watched our games this year, was how we played, and how the teams we played played. The three-point shooting was just a huge factor in a lot of these games. We played teams with some really good shooters. We just didn’t shoot the ball as well as we need to. I think we’ve got a lot of kids with potential to do that. But there’s a reason why great shooters are great shooters, they shoot the ball a lot. And we had some kids that were really faithful at coming to open gyms, but that’s not enough. They need to put time in on their own.”

The Mustangs overall shot 30 percent from distance, but only finished a game above .500. The Mustangs say goodbye to five seniors, but will return three of their top five three-point shooters.
