The Pella City Council is aiming to finalize the 2021 fiscal year budget at their meeting Tuesday. The council will review the proposal that maintains the city’s current property tax rate of $10.20 per $1000 of valuation and expenditures of nearly $46 million. Among the key proposals:

-Three new full-time positions in the City of Pella, including two for the new telecommunications utility, and an upgrade from zoning administrator back to the Planning and Zoning Director
-Proposed 5% increase in water rates for water system improvements, 8% increase in wastewater rates due to DNR Mandated improvements ($6 million project)
-$2.5 million in public infrastructure extensions for the Prairie Ridge Housing Development
-Reconstruction of Bos Landen Drive, overlay of Bos Landen Weg
-$1.5 million in public infrastructure extensions to Lely North American Headquarters

The budget is required to be submitted to the Iowa Treasurer’s Office by March 31st. The Pella City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Public Safety Complex.
